T K Rajendran is new Chennai police commissioner

Tripathy was made CoP by the election commission

Chennai: In a sudden development the state government on Friday appointed T. K. Rajendran, additional director general of police, law & order, as the new Chennai police commissioner, in the place of S. George, who has been asked to take charge as the head of prison department. J. K. Tripathy, ADGP, now heading the prisons, has been posted as the new ADGP law and order.

Rajendran, an officer from the 1984 batch will be the 101st Commissioner of Chennai. It may be recalled that George was shifted from the city and made ADGP prisons at the time of elections. Tripathy was made CoP by the election commission.

However, the state government appointed George as city police chief again immediately after the elections. Rajendran, who had earlier served as additional commissioner of police in Chennai city, is expected to take charge as the new commissioner on Saturday morning.

George was posted as the city police chief in 2012 September. He was the commissioner since then except election time.
