Namakkal: Over 100 poultry farms shut
About 1000 poultry farms in Namakkal district have faced a total loss of Rs 1, 500 crore over the last three years
Namakkal: In the egg hub of Namakkal in Tamil Nadu, the Egg Day celebrations were just like the stale omelette, as at least 100 poultry farms have been shut down in the last one year in Namakkal and neighbouring Salem. About 1000 poultry farms in Namakkal district have faced a total loss of Rs 1, 500 crore over the last three years due to the steep hike in production cost and the drop in demand for the Namakkal eggs.
“The future of the poultry business looks very bleak in Namakkal as the production cost has drastically increased due to the hike in rates of poultry feed,” says TN egg poultry federation vice president, Vangili Subramaniam.
