Kerala Congress (M) pushes for more seats in civic poll
Kottayam: Finance minister K.M. Mani, chairman of the Kerala Congress (M), has stepped up pressure on Congress for more seats saying it was underestimating his party’s strength in central Kerala.
“We are the balancing factor in the state politics. Whichever side we are, it'd captures power,” he told reporters here on Friday.
“We will demand seats considering the growth of our party. We are sure that we will get those seats. There will not be any friendly contests this time.”
The seat-sharing talks between the Congress and the Keral Congress (M) deadlocked after the later demanded more seats in the district panchayat where both contested an equal number of seats last time.
Congress party sources said the KC(M) was not a major force anywhere in the region other than Pala, and hence their demands could not be accepted.
CPI (M) district secretary V.N. Vasavan, meanwhile, said the seat sharing among the LDF partners would be finalised by Saturday and the candidates list published on Monday.
BJP district president Ettumanoor Radhakrishnan said most of his party’s candidates were already decided, and the list would be out by Monday.
