Chennai: Veteran flautist N. Ramani, one of the disciples of acclaimed musician and his maternal uncle late T.R. Mahalingam, died on Friday. He was 81.
N. Ramani was born in Tiruvarur in 1934 and learnt from his grandfather Azhiyur Narayanasami Iyer. His grandson Atul Kumar is also a flautist. Ramani had won several awards, including Sangita Kalandhi.
“With his passing, there is a sense of loss for a paradigm that is fast disappearing,” said classical pianist Anil Srinivasan.
