The religious play ‘Agnes of God’ that sparked a controversy across Indian cities was staged

Hyderabad: The religious play ‘Agnes of God’ that sparked a controversy across Indian cities was staged as per schedule in the city Friday amid tight security. However, a group of men belonging to the Catholic community staged a protest against the organisers at the venue and tried to stall the show, but were taken into preventive custody. Over 150 spectators turned up for the play, as it started at 8pm, unmindful of the protests.
The detained men were taken to the Banjara Hills police station and released later. Over 20 policemen had been deployed at the Lamakaan after the organisers sought police protection. Meanwhile, the government has constituted a review committee to form an opinion on the play. It would be headed by senior official Rajiv Trivedi, and include an NGO representative, two from the Christian community and a retired judge. The play will be screened at the same venue on October 10 for the public.
