Hyderabad: A Nigerian national, who was involved in a major fraud here, has been arrested with 10.6kg of a contraband in Delhi. The racket was busted by the Cyberabad police on Friday. Six of his aides were also arrested. Seven others possessing several laptops and mobile phones were also handed over to Delhi Police.
Police said that, on August 18, a 23-year-old woman teacher from Kukatpally area lodged a complaint with the Cyberabad cyber crime police, exposing an online marriage fraud. The victim, a widow, was approached by someone who introduced himself as John on a matrimonial website. He said he would come to India and urged her to arrange a house in a posh locality here. He promised to send money.
Subsequently, she received a call from someone posing as a customs officer, who threatened to arrest her, saying she received foreign currency. To evade arrest, she paid him Rs 5.5 lakh, but later found she was cheated.
