I do not believe in number games: Rakul Preet
Rakul Preet Singh has in the recent past emerged as one of the most sought-after heroines in Tollywood. The former Miss India was in the city to promote her upcoming film Bruce Lee opposite Ram Charan Teja, which is being dubbed as Bruce Lee 2 in Tamil. Dressed in a pale pink Neeta Lulla outfit, the actress was in a chirpy mood. Having done few films like Puthagam and Yennamo Etho in K’town as well, the actress spoke in a freewheeling interview to DC.
“I don’t believe in number games. People keep saying that in T’town I have reached the peak, but honestly, it hasn’t sunk in. Everyone has their own space in this industry,” she starts off her conversation when we inform her that she is touted to be the number one actress in Telugu film industry.
We don’t get to see you in Tamil now. Why?
I was tied up with Telugu films and concentrating on my projects there. Now, I have resolved to do more flicks in Tamil and I am listening to a few scripts.
How do you face the stiff competition from the likes of Shruti Haasan, Tamannaah, Kajal and Samantha in Telugu?
There’s competition at every phase of your life. The day we start thinking about it, you lose your peace of mind. I don’t compete with anyone. The only time I think about it is when you question me! I compete only with myself! (laughs).
Contrary to the biggies like Ram Charan and Jr. NTR with whom you collaborate in Telugu, here in K’town you are teaming up with upcoming actors.
I just accepted good scripts which came my way in Tamil. I would love to act with Suriya, Dhanush, Vijay — the list goes on.
Your height — a plus or minus?
If Anushka can work with all the heroes and made it big, I think I can also and should not have any issues. Moreover, with advanced camera tricks, anything is possible.
With actresses playing ghost becoming a trend in K’town, would you opt for one?
I don’t mind! But I am yet to get an offer for a horror thriller. I am also open to women-centric films.
Did you perform any risky stunts in the actioner Bruce Lee 2?
I play a graphic designer and it’s a stylish role. I wasn’t directly involved in any stunt sequence, but I was a ‘prop’ in one of Charan’s high-octane action sequences where he would lift me and do a somersault and throw me away. It was quite interesting, and we had lot of fun.
Tell us about Ram Charan.
Despite coming from a big family, he is very grounded. His high energy levels and dedication amazed me.
We hear Chiranjeevi who does a cameo, praised your performance?
Yes, I was fortunate enough to share the screen with Chiranjeevi sir. I was also part of a crucial sequence. He complimented me when he watched one of the songs from the movie.
What is the secret behind your svelte figure?
I workout every day. If I don’t do it, I become moody! I don’t diet but eat healthy.
You did a scene where you get drunk in Yennamo Yedho. What do you think on women drinking?
We are in a world where men and women are on the same platform. Irrespective of man or woman, when everything is well within control, it is fine. I personally do not drink. To drink or not to, is one’s own choice. So long as it doesn’t affect others, it is okay.
What are your hobbies other than acting?
I love to play golf and watch movies in Tamil and Telugu whenever I get time.
What are your upcoming films?
I have two Telugu films currently — one with Jr. NTR and the other is with Allu Arjun. Also, I am doing my second film in Hindi, Simla Mirchi.
