A look at the winner of the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize

The group was cited "for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy"

Oslo, Norway: The Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet won the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 20154. It is a pro-democracy group made up of four key organizations in Tunisian civil society: the Tunisian General Labour Union; the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts; the Tunisian Human Rights League; and the Tunisian Order of Lawyers.

Why were they awarded the Nobel?

The group was cited "for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy" in the North African country following its 2011 revolution.

What is the significance?

The prize is a big victory for Tunisia, whose young and still shaky democracy suffered two extremist attacks this year. It is also seen as a nod of encouragement to those who seek to promote peace and democracy in other countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

What they said on winning the Nobel

Houcine Abassi, the leader of the Tunisian General Labour Union, told The Associated Press he was "overwhelmed" by the award. "It's a prize that crowns more than two years of efforts deployed by the quartet when the country was in danger on all fronts," he said.
