Panel term extended, Telangana staff plan dharna
Hyderabad: The Centre on Thursday extended the tenure of Kamalnathan Committee till March 31, 2016.
The term of the committee, constituted in 2014, to bifurcate 58,000 state-cadre staff between TS and AP, was set to expire on October 15, after a six month extension in April.
Despite this, the committee could divide only 16,000 staff so far out of 58,000 after nearly two years.
The extension sparked protests from TS employees associations, who decided to hold a “maha dharna” on October 10 against the committee.
TS staff allege that the committee is biased towards AP employees and has been allotting them to TS, despite vacancies in AP.
They said the committee allotted several AP employees in 34 departments to TS, ignoring nativity norms, and accused it of deliberately delaying division of the staff to favour AP employees and making them work in Hyderabad and surrounding districts.
“They took two years to bifurcate 16,000 staff. How much time would the committee take to divide the remaining 42,000 staff? Going by the current pace, it may take some years, which is unacceptable. The Centre should ask the panel to expedite the process,” said A. Padma Chary, TS employees’ leader.
