Kerala tourism project to open up lighthouses

A roadshow will be held in Kochi October 14 with the support of tourism department to attract potential investors.
KOCHI: Lighthouses along Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts, some of them close to two centuries old, are set to open up for tourism projects with private participation.
The project is part of the plan devised by the Noida-based office of the director general of lighthouses and lightships.
A roadshow will be held in Kochi October 14 with the support of tourism department to attract potential investors.
The lighthouses include Vypin, Alappuzha, Thangassery, Vizhinjam, Chettuva, Kannur, Manakkodam, Agatti, Kalpeni, Suheli Par and Kadmat, said a senior official of DLL in Kochi.
The project aims to enhance and develop the existing lighthouses and its premises into unique tourism destinations, conservation and protection of their heritage and contribution to art, architecture and cultural values.
The project also envisages developing maritime infrastructure such as heritage museum, technical and national maritime museum.
The roadmap will be based on the report submitted by a private consultant to tap the tourism potential of around 78 lighthouses located in different parts of the country.
