India could become the second largest market for LTE mobile devices by 2017
Hyderabad: India could become the second largest market for LTE mobile devices by 2017, feels a senior official of Microsoft Mobile Devices. Speaking on the sidelines of launch of Lumia 640XL in Hyderabad on Thursday , Microsoft Mobile Devices director for sales (south) T.S. Sridhar said, “The smartphone boom in India is tremendous and it is likely to become the second largest market for LTE devices by 2017. However, it is still at a nascent stage.”
Lumia 640XL is the first LTE 4G phone from the Microsoft stable. The company has partnered with Airtel to offer free data services to the customers of Lumia 640XL. “The mobile manufacturers and the telecom service providers should work together to provide the best 4G user experience to the customers and the tie-up with Airtel is in this respect,” said Mr Sridhar.
The company has launched 11 smartphones since July last year and recently had a global launch of its premium Lumia phones - Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The company is expected to launch the two phones by the end of this year.
