If I get opportunity to come back and play for India I look forward to that,' says Yuvraj Singh

It was a conversation with Sachin Tendulkar which helped Yuvraj refocus

Mumbai: The last time Yuvraj Singh played for India was in the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2014. India lost in the final to Sri Lanka and his knock of 11 runs in 21 balls did not go down well with the fans.

The star of the 2011 World Cup said it was a conversation with Sachin Tendulkar, which has helped him refocused. “Just want to play and enjoy my cricket,” said Yuvraj here on Wednesday.
Recalling the conversation, the Punjab Ranji captain added, “I was speaking to Sachin last year and he said that obviously the most important thing is to play for India but don’t forget to enjoy the game.
“As young kids we always played the game to enjoy it, we never knew that we were going to play for India. I enjoy playing cricket and it was always my passion as a young kid, so as long as I am enjoying it, I want to play.”
Yuvraj, who plundered 671 runs from seven Ranji matches last season including three centuries, said he is looking at the ongoing season to impress the selectors. He led Punjab in the first match in Harbhajan Singh’s absence and will be doing the same in the second game against Mumbai starting Wednesday.
“If I get opportunity to come back and play for India I look forward to that. These are the games, which will give me opportunity to come back, so I am trying my best. I had six weeks of good off-season training and practicing so hopefully it comes through in the games.”
With India scheduled to host the T20 Cup in March-April, there is a window of opportunity for Yuvraj Singh to make a comeback. “A World Cup is a World Cup, whether it is T20 or 50 overs. It’s always an honour to play another World Cup. (But) I am not thinking so far ahead, I am just thinking (about it) game by game, how my game is going and how I can improve. So that’s what my target is.”
Asked if he ever considered quitting the game altogether, Yuvraj said “You have your moments in life where games are disappointing and they don’t go your way. But what do you play cricket for? You play your cricket just to enjoy the game,” said the left-handed batsman.
