Karnataka Governor: Can’t run school in Raj Bhavan!

The school has its entrance through the back gate of Raj Bhavan near the Legislative House

BENGALURU: The Governor's office has proposed to close a government lower primary school being run on the premises of Raj Bhavan, as it has only 16 students and two teachers and none of these children are wards of Governor’s resident staff or employees, for whom the school was started.

“The Governor’s Secretariat has written to us that it is difficult for them to manage and provide security for students who come from outside and study at the school,” Mr E. Ramesh, Block Education Officer, Shivajinagar, said. “We inspected the school and found that none of the 16 students were children of Governor’s staff.”

The Secretariat wrote to the BEO on August 31, stating that the school should shift by September along with its two teachers. The BEO has forwarded the letter to the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (North) to expedite the governor’s orders. The 16 students will be admitted to the Government Kannada and Tamil school in Vasanthanagar and the teachers will also be transferred once the department decides upon it, said Mr Ramesh.

The school has its entrance through the back gate of Raj Bhavan near the Legislative House. It was set up in 1976 for the children of Governor’s staff. The school has classes from one to five.

“A few parents of the students have raised objection and written to us stating that they do not want their wards to be transferred especially in the middle of this academic year. I have forwarded these letters too to the department,” Mr Ramesh said.
