Five New Babanagar residents get Dengue
Four of the patients are recuperating at the Hosptial
Hyderabad: Five residents of New Babanagar in the old city contracted dengue in a week but the GHMC has not taken steps to prevent the spread of the disease, including observing a dry day. Four of the patients are recuperating at the Bibi Amina Hosptial at Chandrangutta, while a fifth has been successfully treated. Dr Maqdoom Mohiuddin, a general physician who has a practice in the area, said, “I have treated 20 patients in the last one month. We have been constantly complaining to the GHMC. Only on Wednesday after registering a strong protest did the fogging team arrive. But the officers claim that this area does not fall under GHMC limits and is under the Balapur gram panchayat at Ranga Reddy district.”
A GHMC officer said, “There are two scrap godowns in the area where clean water is stored for daily operations. This has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The scrap merchant has been told to not keep water but continues to do so.”
