DCPs will be hauled up for crimes in their area: Siddaramaiah

BENGALURU: Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah who chaired a review meeting of law and order at his home office ‘Krishna’ here on Wednesday, sent a strong message to the police force on increasing cases of crime, and warned that even officers of the rank of deputy commissioners of police would be held responsible for offences in their jurisdiction.
According to a statement issued by his secretariat and information department, Mr Siddaramaiah chaired the meeting in view of the gangrape of a BPO employee. The meeting was also attended by ministers and senior officials of ministries of home, transport, IT & BT and industries.
Mr Siddaramaiah, who was briefed on the law and order situation, elicited details about number of cases registered for breach of law and order.
Expressing anguish over the rape incident, Mr Siddaramaiah directed police officers to ensure security of women employees working in BPO and IT & BT companies. He also said companies should adhere to directives of labour department.
Mr Siddaramaiah asked top police to check whether the BPO firm in which the victim was working, had erred by not providing transport to its employees.
He directed the police to intensify patrolling at midnight. "Particularly, Hoysala vans should be on the move which will send a signal to the people," he said adding that a special app has been designed for women and this should be utilised by them.
