You must have probably come across 'Y-Films' new series witten and directed by Vikram Gupta, titled 'Man's World'. Though the theme of gender discrimation has been explored several times in the past, this new rendition is an apt portrayal of the prevalent sexism in our society. Sounds serious? Well, this four part series is a spot on depiction of gender inequality situation in India with just the right amount of humour. The series which revolves Gaurav Pandey's character, also features Kalki Koechlin, Parineeti Chopra, Richa Chadda, Ayushmann Khurrana, Soni Razdan and Pritish Nandy to name a few.
It revolves around Kiran (played by Gaurav Pandey), a male chauvinist. He believes that women actually have it easy, for instance, seats in buses, preferential treatment at work. Fed up, he prays for the world to flip and for men to interchange places. As they say, be careful for what you wish for...
So, the gender-roles have been reversed but would being a man in woman's world be that easy? The second episode subtly addresses the issue of harassment at workplace. Kiran gets lesser raise than his female counterpart received. Reason being that he won’t be able to handle the same workload and responsibilities as a woman. However things take an interesting turn when his boss makes sexual advance towards him.
This episode takes a hilarious dig at women law and security. Tired of being in this new world where he's being eve-teased, harassed and letched at, Kiran wants to undo it all, while his mother wants to get him married off to somebody of her choosing.
In the season finale, his parents seal the deal at 1 cr. and Kiran is married against his wishes. This episode revolves around martial rape and Kiran realizes how lopsided the earlier world had been to women.
