THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has said that SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan and his son who are desperate for a tie-up with Sangh Parivar, were spreading falsehood and heaping abuses on him to mislead the people.
In an article Achuthanandan accused Natesan of shying away from answering the charges levelled by him.
“There can be some dispute over the bribe amount taken for admissions and postings, but in that case Natesan should reveal the exact figure. If the money is not stashed in Swiss bank then he should disclose the bank where the money is deposited," he said.
The veteran said Natesan should either admit taking bribe or completely deny the charges. But he is mum.
“On the basis of which religion is he taking bribe ? Sree Narayana Guru had asked people to empower themselves using education and not to loot in the name of education,” he said.
Achuthanandan countered Velappally’s statement that there was no need to apprise people about the accounts of SNDP Yogam and SN Trust.
“I didn't ask about accounts of SNDP and SN Trust. I asked him about the bribe taken for appointments and admissions in institutions run by them,” he said.
For instance between 1996 and 2013, SN Trust institutions had carried out 904 appointments.
If Rs 20 lakh is taken from each candidate the bribe amount would come to Rs 180 crores. However, official records show the income as Rs 5-6 lakh, Achuthanandan added.
He said in 2014, as many as 100 vacancies of lecturers were reported in SN Trust institutions. Going by the present rate of Rs 40 lakh per post the amount would come to around Rs 80 crore. One of fourth of this has already been taken as advance, he alleged.
Achuthanandan said SNDP Yogam and SN Trust had become Natesan welfare sangham with his son, wife, daughter-in-law and close relatives holding all important positions.
“It would be no different once SNDP floats a political party,” the opposition leader said.
