Farmers’ suicides in Shivamogga district has gone up to 16

Shivamogga: Unable to bear debt problems, a farmer committed suicide in Shikaripur taluk of Shivamogga district on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Motla Naik (54) of Kuskur in Shikaripur taluk. It is said that disappointed over the loan burden, he allegedly consumed poison and was admitted to the Government Hospital in the town. But he died in the hospital. Sources said that Mr.Naik had three acres of bagair hukum land and had borrowed Rs 3 lakh loan.
A case has been registered at the Shiralkoppa police station. With this the farmers’ suicides in Shivamogga district has gone up to 16.
