Research scholars to defy SSUS, to hold seminar

Representatives of SFI, AISF, KSU and AIDSO will address the event

KOCHI: Research scholars under the banner of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) Research Scholars Association will hold a protest march on the Kalady varsity campus at noon on Wednesday in protest against the decision of the varsity authorities not to allow conduct of an anti-fascism seminar on Thursday.

“The Registrar issued an order in this regard on Tuesday. However, we are determined to conduct it in association with the teaching and non-teaching staff associations and student organizations. Poet Kureepuzha Sreekumar is set to open the event at 2 pm. SSUS teacher Sunil P Ilayidom will deliver the key talk. Representatives of SFI, AISF, KSU and AIDSO will address the event,” said Vishnu Raj Thuvayoor, a research scholar.

He said that the Registrar had cited the clash between ABVP-SFI workers last week to deny permission. “The situation has changed now and classes have resumed. Moreover action has not been initiated against ABVP activists also. The university authorities are denying organizational freedom on one pretext or the other. We are not going to be cowed down by that,” said Vishnu.
