Don’t stage Agnes of God: Catholics

Officials at Lamakaan, however, said that they had not received anything yet

Hyderabad: The Catholic Secular Forum of Mumbai has written to Lamakaan authorities not to allow staging of the play Agnes of God on October 9 and 10.

Officials at Lamakaan, however, said that they had not received anything yet. Meanwhile, Hyderabad Archbishop Rev. Thumma Bala will be meeting Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday and ask him to ensure that the play is not staged in Hyderabad.

Father S. Bernard, vicar general of Hyderabad Archdiocese, said, “Rev. Thumma Bala will be meeting the Chief Minister and the police commissioner on Wednesday; the church will object to anything that is against our faith. Clergies who dedicate their life to God and human service cannot be depicted in this manner, it is damaging to the convent and the church.”

Lamakaan’s manager, Subba Reddy, said, “Lamakaan is just providing the space, we have nothing to do with the play; the organisers will deal with the litigation. Lamakaan will go ahead and provide space even after we receive the letter.”

Meanwhile, fearing sabotage, the play’s director Vinay Varma has approached the Hyderabad police for protection on October 9 and 10.
