Cadet’s dad seeks proper probe into death
Kochi: Father of an 18-year-old NCC cadet who died during firing practice in Kannur last year has moved the Kerala High Court seeking a proper enquiry into his death.
Anas, a first-year undergraduate student of NAM College, Kallikandy, Ka-nnur, sustained a bullet injury and died in Comm-and Hospital, Bengaluru, in November 2014.
A bullet fired by a cadet at the order of the commanding officer hit Anas, who was on assigned duty to clear the field and repair the target after every round of firing.
An FIR was registered at Kuthuparamba Judicial First Class Magistrate, and a probe is on.
His father Kunhammad M. of Vatakara in his petition said the investigation was inconclusive and on a wrong track.
He expressed his apprehensions and submitted that the authorities were attempting to close the matter.
Udayakumar case files sought
The Kerala High Court on Tuesday called for the case files related to the custodial murder of the Udayakumar case which is pending before the CBI Court Thiruvananthapuram.
Justice B. Sudheendra Kumar issued the directive on a petition filed by the two cops who are accused in the case.
The petitioners Sabu E.K., currently SP and Ajith Kumar, DySP of police moved the court seeking to be discharged from the case. The duo are charged with manipulating the evidence.
The two are also carged with the custodial torture of Udayakumar. A many as 14 police personnel were accused in the case.
The accused have been charged under various sections of IPC including section 302 (murder). The case was that in order to extort a confession from Udayakumar, the cops subjected him to torture.
He was made to lie on his back on a bench and repeatedly beaten on the soles of his feet with a cane. An iron pipe was then forcefully rolled down on his thighs.
The CBI took over the investigation pursuant to a HC directive on a plea by Prabhavathiamma, mother of Udayakumar.
