BMRCL plans Metro phase 2 depot near IIMB
Bengaluru: When the state government turned down the request by Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to acquire a small portion of the Roerich estate to construct a depot on Kanakapura Road for the South line, the agency was in a fix. Now, after months of discussion BMRCL have identified a place near IIMB for Phase 2 depot.
Speaking with Deccan Chronicle, Vasanth Rao, General Manager (Finance) said, “We are working on the last minute details. We have identified land near IIMB. Once we acquire the land, we will reveal all other details pertaining to the land.”
BMRCL was to acquire forest land to the tune of 4.97 hectares near Roerich’s Tataguni estate on Kanakapura Road for a planned depot. Early this year, they even received the green signal for carrying out geo-technical investigation. However, due to state government’s refusal, BMRCL started working on an alternative plan and they are not going to acquire any forest land for the depot.
The said stretch is the southern line that connects Puttenahalli cross to Anjanapura Township (up to NICE Road) where the depot was to come up. The line is 6.29 km and comprises of five stations. About 200 acres of land are to be acquired for entire phase 2.
The cabinet approved the Phase 2 of Namma Metro last year paving way for further improved public transport system in the city. With a total investment cost of almost '26,405.14 crore, the 72-km stretch is expected to benefit IT professionals.
