Stephenie Meyer gender-swaps lead characters in new ‘Twilight’ novel
Twilight author Stephenie Meyer surprised fans by announcing that her new book would be a gender-swapped version of the popular vampire novel to mark Twilight’s 10th anniversary, reports The Daily Dot.
The new novel, titled Life and Death, will have Bella Swan recast as teen boy named Beau and Edward Cullen as centuries-old vampire named Edythe. Meyer even promised that the 442-page retelling of her famous novel would also contain some bonus material.

Meyer wrote in her forward to the anniversary novel that Life and Death was her way of responding to critics who said that Bella Swan was too much of a damsel in distress. She goes on to add that by rewriting Bella as Beau, she hoped to prove that the character is just “a normal human being surrounded on all sides by people who are basically superheroes and supervillains.”
