Samosa is the new indie pick
It’s no secret that the mobile gaming industry is booming, so it’s also not a surprise that everyone wants to be the next Candy Crush. Unfortunately, a lot of Indie studios are so blinded in their search for success that they end up losing that spark. However, there are a few standout indies that have produced some great games over the years and the latest addition to that list is Madras Studios with Samosa.
Contrary to what the game’s name might suggest it has nothing to do with a Samosa. It’s actually a play on the game’s lead characters, Sam the hero and Osa the evil scientist. The sidescrolling game has you take the helm of an upgraded auto as Sam ploughs through waves of enemies without mercy in his quest to reach Osa.
The game’s monochrome presentation depicts the constant battle between of good and evil and is backed by a great soundtrack. The first thing that hit me when I popped up the game was how similar it looked a lot like Limbo, though it still manages to feel unique in character design and of course, the pimped out auto! The gameplay is straightforward — the Auto keeps moving while you have to click to shoot and deploy spells. These spells are unlocked over time and depending on the level you need to decide which three to take into the game. After the initial wave, things speed up and it gets quite hectic on screen.
Samosa is currently available FREE on Android and is expected to launch on iOS by the end of October and on Windows Phone in November. The project has also been greenlit on the Steam platform for a full on PC release.
