Dadri incident: ‘Zero tolerance’ on any attempt to incite communal violence, says Centre

New Delhi: As communal tension spread in UP, where a man was lynched by a mob in Dadri district of Greater Noida, on the basis of rumours that he had eaten beef, the Centre issued a stern advisory asking all states to ensure “zero tolerance” of any attempt to incite communal tension.

The advisory came after tension spread to nearby areas after pieces of meat were found in an adjoining village. Police was deployed in Chithera, about 5 km from Bishada, after the recovery of meat pieces on Sunday. Dadri DSP Anurag Singh said some persons had planted the meat pieces to create communal disturbance.

The political slugfest over the Dadri lynching continued with controversial BJP MLA Sangeet Som coming under fire for his remarks that a “befitting reply will be given, as was done in Muzaffarnagar”, and Union minister Sanjeev Kumar Balyan terming the lynching of Iqlakh a “spontaneous act” and a “social issue concerning the emotions of the Hindu community”.

“The incident was spontaneous and there was no conspiracy. The Centre has banned import and export of beef. We will review if cow meat is exported illegally,” Mr Balyan said.

Issuing a stern advisory, the ministry of home affairs said, “While law and order is basically a state subject” it has been “concerned over various incidents with communal overtones across the country, including the recent unfortunate incident” at Dadri in UP.
