VMC’s road expansion puts motorists in a fix
Corporation’s road expansion works remain incomplete which is a cause of serious concern to commuters
Vijayawada: In a bid to reduce traffic issues in Vijayawada, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has started expanding important roads that are narrow and cause traffic blocks in the rush hours. However, some of the unfinished roads in city are only adding to the woes of motorists who are already suffering consequences of potholes and craters on majority of the city roads. The officials concerned dig up either side of the road to expand them and laid smooth roads at some places and left some unfinished.
These unfinished roads sometimes cause motorists to skid badly besides creating a lot of dust pollution all through the day. One such affected road left mid-way is Gurunanak Nagar road which connects NH and Autonagar and is the main road for lakhs of commuters every day. In the month of July, both sides of the road were dug up and also the narrow part joining the road with NH, to solve the traffic problems which are long overdue for years.
However, the road is only half finished and filled with limestones and mud. Despite this the police on duty near the junction are forcing motorists to use it which results in skidding of two wheelers. “This portion of road is causing trouble to traffic from both sides. Riding on the mud and scattered stones is dangerous for motorcyclists,”said K. Manish of Gurunanak Nagar. Similar situation prevail on other unfinished roads.
