Politics ban will only help communal outfits grow on campuses: AK Antony
Mr Antony said there were efforts to inject communal poison into young impressionable minds
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress Working Committee member A.K. Antony has said it was foolish to ban politics in schools and colleges because it led to communal and casteist forces tightening their hold on campuses.
At the KSU leadership camp here on Monday, Mr Antony said there were efforts to inject communal poison into young impressionable minds.
Mr Antony was recalling the agitation launched by various organizations years ago to stem campus violence, which built up public opinion that led to the Court banning campus politics.
Mr Antony, who was instrumental in opening up the higher education sector, said self-financing colleges that breached the understanding with the State Government had no reason to be in business.
‘They might as well close down and leave the scene”, he said. The quantum of bribes exchanged in admissions and recruitments was going up year after year. The private education sector had become a cesspool of corruption, he said.
Lending music to the ears of the youth, Mr Antony said he would solidly back the demand for more opportunities to the youth in the local polls. Giving more chance to the youth would bring rewards as in the case of K S Sabarinath in Aruvikkara, he said.
