Police stops SFI rally

Chalo Assembly to draw attention to OU problems
Hyderabad: Tension gripped Osmania University on Monday and the university entrance was blocked by the police as students organised a Chalo Assembly rally from Arts College to raise issues like the absence of a permanent VC, the lack of regular recruitment of faculty and the non-release of money for paying mess dues by the government. As students started the rally they were stopped by the police and some preventive arrests were made.
A student belonging to SFI, which organised the rally said, “The university is in the doldrums and the government has not bothered since the Telangana formation to restore the university’s glory. We decided to launch a peaceful rally but were detained.”
On Tuesday another Chalo Assembly rally is being planned from Arts College by the Scheduled Tribe Students JAC to demand an increase in the reservations for ST to 12 per cent. The university has witnessed many protests in the last few months and this has affected the academic schedule of campus colleges, especially the Arts College.
