Four jawans killed by militants in Kashmir
Army and J&K police reinforcements launched a massive operation to flush out militants
Srinagar: Four Army jawans were killed on Monday in a fierce gun battle with militants in the Handwara woods in J&K’s border district of Kupwara. Earlier reports had said three jawans were killed and a fourth was missing. He too was found dead later, reports said.
Army and J&K police reinforcements launched a massive operation to flush out the militants, believed to be five to six in number. Army helicopters are being used mainly for surveillance of the area.
A defence spokesman, confirming the casualties, said: “Unfortunately, we lost three jawans earlier today (Monday). Another jawan who was missing was found dead. The operation is still underway.”
