BJP dislikes ‘Beef’, even if it’s a village
New Delhi: The word ‘Beef’ is something the present government does not seem to be comfortable with and hence, it has changed the name of a village called ‘Beef’ in Uttarkashi district of Uttarkhand and changed it to ‘Narayanpuri’.
The go-ahead was given by the Union home ministry under Rajnath Singh which consulted the concerned departments like the Survey of India, ministry of railways, communication and IT and the postal departments.
The move began soon after the Modi government came to power. On July 24, 2014, the Uttarakhand government proposed the change and in August Centre gave its nod.
“The clearances are only given where the reasons are justified and there is demand from the local administration and vetted by the state government,” an MHA official said.
