Telangana farmers to get seeds at 50 per cent subsidy for rabi crop
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has offered to bear 50 per cent subsidy on purchase of seeds to help farmers minimise their investments in rabi after the failed kharif season due to drought.
Agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Sunday reviewed the measures to be taken for rabi season that commenced on October 1. Officials of agriculture and horticulture departments were present in the meeting.
It was decided to supply groundnut and Bengal gram seeds at 50 per cent subsidy to farmers. Accordingly, a 30-kg bag of groundnut seeds would be sold for Rs 1,400 and 25-kg bag of Bengal gram seeds for Rs 800.
Mr Reddy asked officials to monitor supply of seeds, fertilisers and power on a day-to-day basis and ensure that the farmers do not face any problems in rabi in this regard.
He directed officials and staff to take up field-level visits to farms and hold meetings in villages to give tips to farmers on the crops they need to opt for, in rabi.
Bankers were asked to issue fresh loans for rabi. Officials informed that the rabi season has begun on a positive note with a few spells of rain in districts.
