Bandaru Dattatreya to CM: Seek loan waiver funds from Centre

Mr Dattatreya said the CM should hold an all-party leaders’ conference on farmer suicides

Hyderabad: Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Sunday advised Telangana state Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union finance minister Arun Jaitley and persuade them to release additional funds for the state.

Addressing mediapersons, Mr Dattatreya said the Chief Minister should hold an all-party leaders’ conference on farmer suicides and added that he should also meet Mr Modi and Mr Jaitley for funds.

He suggested that the CM should waive the remaining two instalments of farm loans in one go and if funds were a problem he should meet Mr Jaitley. He also suggested that the CM tour the districts with his ministers and instil much-needed confidence among farmers.

Referring to “arbitrary” deletion of genuine voters from the voters’ list for being “bogus” and “ineligible”, the Union minister said that the election authorities should convene a meeting with all political parties and convince them about the exercise for purification of the voters’ list.

He said that any exercise should be done in the most transparent manner as it concerned people exercising their franchise.

Blaming the Congress for obstructing development and welfare programmes launched by the NDA government, the minister said it was time for the Congress to review its role in national politics and start behaving like a constructive opposition party.
