Whitefield woes: Schools look for traffic solutions

They have come together and with the help of civic expert and have decided to find a solution

Bengaluru: Eight kilometre radius school zone, 25,000+ students, 800 school buses and pothole filled double road. A minimum time of 45 minutes to cover the distance of just 2 kilometers.

This is the sorry picture of Whitefield area where the best of CBSE, ICSE and International schools of the city are located.

Irked by the poor response of the civic agencies to their demands towards solving the traffic woes of this school zone, the schools themselves have decided to find a solution to their problems. They have come together and with the help of civic expert and have decided to find a solution. The first meeting of all school heads and managements held recently, resulted in the decision to take a few steps to decongest the roads.

R.K. Misra, under whose aegis meeting was held, told this newspaper that one of the decisions taken in the meeting was to have different timings for different schools. 'School heads have decided to collect data related to existing timings. The schools have decided to adopt different timings to ensure all school vehicles will not get on to roads together easing the congestion,' he said.

Funding: Misra informed that schools are also expressed their readiness to fund those initiatives which can decongest roads.

Truck issue: Misra informed that even though 8 kilo meter radius in Whitefield has been declared a school zone, no civic agency has come up with any concrete action plan to make roads safe for kids. 'Expansion of roads, banning inter state trucks from using these roads etc are our demands,' he said.
