Information chief: RTI Act not utilised fully

There is a need for greater awareness about the power, he said
Hyderabad: Madabhushi Sridhar, Information Commissioner, Central Information Commission, on Friday said that the RTI Act was not being utilised to its full potential. Speaking on the use and abuse of the Act at a one-day convention in the city on RTI Act, Mr Sridhar said, “There is a need for greater awareness about the power of the Act so that accountability and transparency become ingrained in India over time.”
He said that it was the duty of the state, RTI activists and the people to ensure that the Act is not misused. Peoples Forum for Information chief Partha Sarathi said that the organisation plans awareness camps across the state to help people understand the importance of the RTI Act.
