Thief garlanded, paraded to station

Sreenivasan of Dhashavanapalli village, near Hosur had been arrested on similar charge
Krishnagiri: In a strange spectacle, a thief who was caught red-handed by the public, was garlanded and taken in a procession through the arterial roads to the police station at Hosur in Krishnagiri district.
A 27-year-old man was caught red-handed while he tried to steal electric wire from a building under construction at the Kurinji Nagar. However, the residents chose not to thrash or lynch him.
They called up the police, but the head constable Vadivelu. who came to the spot, refused to take the thief to the Hosur town police station. Then, the residents garlanded the thief, paraded him on the streets and handed him over to the police officers at the station.
The accused, Sreenivasan of Dhashavanapalli village, near Hosur had been arrested on similar charges and sent to the Salem central jail as the remand prisoner.
On Tuesday, Sreenivasan was released on bail but he planned another theft on Thursday and got caught again.
“We caught the accused when he was moving around Kurinji Nagar in a suspicious manner. When we questioned him, he admitted to having stolen the wire. So, we called the police. But the police head constable who came to the spot, refused to take the thief to the station. So, we decided to garland the thief and take him to the station,” recounted 37-year-old A. Narayana, a resident of Kurunji nagar in Hosur.
