SFI, ABVP clash over beef fest
Three ABVP activists objected to the fest demanding that beef should not be distributed on the campus
Thrissur: Supporters of Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Sangh parivar affiliate Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) clashed at Sree Kerala Varma College on Thursday over the ‘beef fest’ SFI organised on the campus.
SFI workers distributed beef and bread to the students protesting the beef ban put in place in some of the NDA-ruled states and the incident in Uttar Pradesh in which one person was lynched by a mob on the suspicion of him storing beef at his home.
Three ABVP activists objected to the fest demanding that beef should not be distributed on the campus.
However, the SFI activists resisted ABVP workers, beating them black and blue. The ABVP workers who sustained injuries were later admitted to a city hospital.
The West police registered cases against 12 SFI supporters for unlawful assembly, rioting and wrongful confinement on the basis of the statement given by the ABVP activists.
The police said that they are on the lookout for the SFI activists who engaged in violence.
