THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a bid to corner the BJP-RSS combine on the quota issue, the Opposition LDF has decided to organise evening dharnas in all panchayats and urban centres across the state on October 9.
The day will be observed as “Reservation Protection Day” in the state. The protest is being held in the wake of the RSS’ alleged move to abolish the existing reservation system in the country.
LDF Convenor Vaikom Viswam said that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s demand for reconsidering the current reservation policy pointed to the dubious plans of the Sangh Parivar.
Earlier, RSS ideologue M G Vaidya had called for abolishing the reservation system. The LDF leader said that it was strange that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not reacted on the back to back statements of the RSS leaders on the reservation issue.
He said the Left parties were firm on their stand that current reservation system for the SC,ST and OBC should continue without any change.
