Adoor Prakash hits out at forest officials on land issue

A total of 1,528 title deeds were distributed at the event held here on Thursday

Thrissur: Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash lashed out at the officials of the state forest department here on Thursday alleging that it was due to their stiff resistance that the government could not give land to several landless families.
He said that he and Forest Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan often engaged in verbal duel during cabinet meetings over the issue.
Mr Prakash, who was here to inaugurate a function to distribute title deeds to the applicants, made it clear that the land presently under the possession of the revenue department would not be handed over to the forest department at any cost.
“The forest department is even trying to take over the revenue land without my consent. The land with my department is to be handed over to the poor and the landless,” Mr Prakash said.
Since the UDF government had come to power in 2011, as many as 1,42,623 title applicants were given title deeds and all efforts would be made to take the figure to 2 lakh, he
said.
A total of 1,528 title deeds were distributed at the event held here on Thursday. There was a ruckus at the venue when nearly 30 applicants, who had sought land earlier, tried to hand over their complaints to the minister saying that their requests had not been met.
The minister promised to do the needful and left the venue.
