Chain snatching: Four more cases in Bengaluru on day two

Bengaluru: Chain snatchings continue unabated in various parts of the city, with four incidents reported on Thursday, thereby taking the total number of incidents in past 48 hours to 10. On Thursday chain snatchings were reported at Koramangala, Yelahanka, Subramanyapura and Hanumanthanagar.

In the first incident Anusuyamma, 60, was on her way to buy milk on 3rd main Sarjapura Road in Koramangala 1st block at around 6:30 am while two bike-borne miscreants snatched her 24-gm gold chain and fled. The Koramangala police have registered a case.

The second incident happened at around 6.45 am, when Girijamma, 55, a resident of Vokkaligara Veedhi in Yelahanka Old Town, was on her way to buy milk. Two bike-borne miscreants came from behind and took away her chain, weighing 80 grams. Yelahanka police have registered a case.

In the third incident that happened at around 10.30 am in Banashankari, Marian, 76, was robbed of her gold chain, weighing 21 gm, by two miscreants on a Pulsar bike. She was accompanied by her daughter Jennifer and they were going to a post office located on 12th main, Banashankari 1st stage. The victims raised an alarm, but in vain. Hanumanthanagar police have registered a case.

The fourth incident happened at around 1.20 pm in Subramanyapura police station limits, while Vani, 44, a resident of BHCS Layout in Uttarahalli, was returning home. Two men in a bike approached her on the pretext of asking an address. One of them snatched her mangal sutra and a plain gold chain, totally weighing 70 gm, and ran towards his accomplice, who was waiting on a motorbike, and fled. The incident happened on 10th main, few yards away from Vani’s house, police said.

The alarming rise in chain snatching incidents in the city has rattled the police. City Police Commissioner N.S. Megharikh told this newspaper, “It is our top most priority to end this menace. I had held meetings with my subordinates and the CCB, who have gathered definite clues about these gangs. We learn that these gangs of 4, 6 or 8 members come to the city from North India and strike at various parts in surprise attacks. We have sent teams to North India to nab them.”
