The lovable house elf, Dobby, has proved to be a hit among fans of the Harry Potter series, even after so many years. Visitors to Leavesden’s Warner Bros. Studio Tour want to free the popular fictional character’s model, which is placed in one of the exhibit cases over there.

According to the rules of Harry Potter’s magic world, house elves are granted independence if they are gifted an item of clothing by their master. This prompted several Dobby-lovers to post pictures of themselves on social media offering socks in front of Dobby’s exhibit case.

The trend got so popular that even J.K Rowling herself retweeted one of these photos. In the original story too, Dobby gains his freedom by receiving his master’s socks.
