Thiruvananthapuram: Rs 70 lakh given to slain Congress leader’s kin

KPCC gave Rs 60 lakh which includes funds
Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC will take care of the kin of A. C. Haneefa, local Congress leader, who was killed in an attack at Chavakkad in Thrissur. KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran today handed over fixed deposit certificates amounting to a whopping Rs 70 lakh to Ayshab, mother and Azlath Beevi, wife and their four girl children.
Forty-year-old Haneefa, a local ‘A’ group Congress leader at Chavakkad, was hacked to death on August 7. A six-member criminal gang stormed into his house without any provocation and allegedly brutally attacked him in the presence of his family.
Sudheeran handed over Rs 12.5 lakh each in fixed deposit certificates to his four children, Azlath Beevi (9 years), Hallath Beevi (6), Haya Fathima Beevi (3) and Haniyath Mihra Beevi (4 months) and Rs 10 lakh each to his wife and mother. He has promised more help to the family saying that the monthly interest would take care of the daily needs.
KPCC sources told DC that Sudheeran’s efforts to provide maximum monetary support to Haneefa’s family is a blow to the ‘I’ group as it has been alleged that they were behind the killing. KPCC treasurer, Johnson Abraham who had accompanied Sudheeran to the kin of Haneefa’s family told DC that the KPCC gave Rs 60 lakh which includes funds from the Overseas Indian Cultural Congress members.
“Another Rs 10 lakh was also collected from Thrissur DCC. KPCC will take care of the four children’s educational needs as well”, said Mr. Abraham.
KPCC general secretaries V. Balram and Padmaja Venugopal, Thrissur DCC president O. Abdurahman Kutty and T. N. Prathapan MLA also accompanied Sudheeran. Meanwhile, the Thrissur DCC convention is scheduled to take place on Oct. 3 but Sudheeran was keen to hand over the financial aid to the kin of Haneefa in advance.
