Enforcement Directorate’s action on Janani stayed
Hyderabad: Justice Vilas V. Afzulpurkar of the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday ordered the Enforcement Directorate to maintain status quo in taking possession of property located at Madhurwada in Visakhapatnam, belonging to Janani Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, owned by YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s family.
The judge was dealing with a petition by Janani Infra, seeking to declare the ED taking possession of its properties pursuant to the provisional attachment order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, as illegal.
The company told the court that after 17 months from filing of the chargesheet in the illegal investments case of Mr Reddy, the ED had issued a provisional attachment order under Section 5 of the Act and attached land and buildings on which printing press of the Sakshi newspaper were located.
It was submitted that the ED had issued the attachment order on the premise that in lieu of the benefits conferred on India Cements, a sum of '5 crore was paid by them to M/s Carmel Asia limited, of which '3 crore was invested into Janani Infra.
