Bikers threaten to call bandh in Telangana
Association believes that helmets are helping to chain-snatchers
Hyderabad: The Telangana Two Wheeler Riders Association has demanded the scrapping of the “No Helmet, No Petrol” plan, and warned that they will call for a twin cities bandh if “helmets are made mandatory.” Transport minister P. Mahender Reddy announced the proposal on Tuesday.
The Two Wheeler Riders Association of Telangana is demanding that a resolution be passed in the Assembly permitting all communities to wear turbans instead of helmets.
“Like Sikhs, everyone should get a waiver,” said Mohd. Amanullah Khan, the convener of the association. The state should amend Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act to ensure that two-wheeler riders aren’t inconvenienced, he said.
Mr Khan warned the TRS government that if helmets are made a must, the Association will try to defeat TRS candidates in the coming GHMC elections. The Association also believes that helmets are becoming a blessing in disguise for chain-snatchers.
