5 get death in 7/11 Mumbai Suburban train blast
Mumbai: A special court on Wednesday sentenced five convicts to death and seven to life-imprisonment for the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai’s suburban trains that killed 189 people on July 11, 2006. The convicts have planned to move the Bombay high court to challenge the order.

The court also fined the convicts Rs 1.51 crore and ordered each one to pay over Rs 11 lakh (11 must pay over Rs 11 lakh each, and the 12th, Mohammed Faisal, has to pay the maximum — Rs 15.45 lakh).
The five sentenced to hang by the neck till dead are Kamal Ahamed Ansari, 37, Mohammed Faisal Shaikh, 36, Ehtesham Siddiqui, 30, Naveed Hussain Khan, 30, and Asif Khan, 38. They were held guilty under IPC Section 302 (murder) and MCOCA Section 3 (1) (i).
The seven sentenced to life in prison are Tanvir Ahmed Ansari, 37, Mohammad Majid Shafi, 32, Shaikh Alam Shaikh, 41, Mohammed Sajid Ansari, 34, Muzzammil Shaikh, 27, Soheil Mehmood Shaikh, 43, and Zamir Ahmad Shaikh, 36.
The judge handed down life terms under provisions of the IPC, Explosives Act, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, Indian Railways Act and MCOCA.
One of the convicts, for whom the prosecution had sought death but the court awarded life imprisonment, said, “We are not satisfied with this judgment. The defence produced a lot of evidence to prove our innocence.
