In August 2015, Airtel rolled out its 4G services across the country. Promoting the service, Airtel released television commercials that claim that ‘Airtel 4G is the fastest network ever’ and that 'If your network is faster, we will pay your mobile bills for life'.
However, a consumer has recently filed a complaint against the advertisement saying that Airtel’s speed challenge is misleading. According to the complainant the advertisement does not carry appropriate disclaimers.
Reviewing the complaint the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has served a notice to Bharti Airtel and has asked for them to withdraw or appropriately modify the said advertisement by October 7, 2015.
