Sheena Bora murder case: CBI lodges FIR against Indrani Mukerjea
Case against former husband of Indrani, Khanna also registered
New Delhi: The CBI on Tuesday initiated its probe into the high-profile Sheena Bora murder case. The special crime unit of the agency lodged a case against Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjay Khanna and former driver Shyamvar Pinturam Rai.
According to sources, a team of CBI sleuths on Tuesday met senior officials of the Mumbai police who investigated the case earlier.
“CBI officials, along with a team of experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, are expected to visit the crime scene on Wednesday. They may also recreate the crime scene,” sources said.
Sheena, 25, was murdered on April 24, 2012 and her body was burnt and disposed of in a forest in Raigad district the next day. “If required, the CBI may seek clarifications from certain officials of the Mumbai Police who were part of the probe team. The agency may also take assistance of the Centre for DNA Finger-printing and Diagnostics and Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, for conducting some scientific tests in the case, sources said.
CBI spokesperson Dev Preet Singh said, “The CBI has registered a case against three private persons under Sections 120-B, 364, 302, 307, 328, 201, 202, 203 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3(25) of the Arms Act relating to the alleged murder of Sheena Bora on the request of the Maharashtra government and further notification from the Centre.”
The decision to hand over the probe to the CBI came after uncertainty on the supervisory role of former Mumbai Police chief Rakesh Maria, who was shunted out in the midst of the inquiry.
