Maoists to target Hyderabad, warn police

Police also warned that underground cadres might come to the city

Hyderabad: City police on Tuesday warned that a large number of Maoist sympathisers and activists from affected areas of Telangana state, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and the Andhra-Odisha Border were likely to reach Hyderabad and cause large scale violence on August 30. Police also warned that underground cadres might come to the city to create trouble. Authorities have thus denied permission for the Chalo Assembly march proposed by the Telangana Democratic Forum on the same day.

“It is reliably learnt that the Chalo Assembly call was given at the instance of CPI (Maoist) party to support its cause. As such the open cadres, supporters, sympathisers and activists of all mass organisations of CPI (Maoist) from Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and the Andhra-Odisha Border are likely to reach Hyderabad in large numbers and these extremist elements are likely to indulge in large-scale violence and disturb public peace and tranquility,” said Central Zone DCP V.B. Kamalasan Reddy.

“In the guise of participants, some underground Maoist cadres are likely to reach Hyderabad and their presence in the city would pose a serious security threat,” said the DCP. The cop added that that Telangana Democratic Forum was formed at the instance of the Maoist party and Chalo Assembly march was being organised to spread its ideology. The official added that the main objective of the Maoist party and its front organisations was to overthrow the government. Apart from beefing up security at the Assembly, police has also taken several Maoist sympathisers into custody. Apart from local cops, 30 platoons of the TS Special Police have also been deployed around the Assembly.
