Lawyer to move Madras High Court for CBI probe into Vishnupriya suicide
The Tiruchengode DSP R.Vishnupriya was found hanging from the ceiling of her official residence
Salem: In yet another curious turn in the suicide of the young woman police officer Vishnupriya, a Madurai-based lawyer has decided to move the Madras High Court for a CBI probe into her suicide.
The advocate, M.Malaviya, who was known to Vishnupriya, has alleged that the CB-CID police were forcing him to admit that he had a love affair with the deceased police officer.
The Tiruchengode DSP R.Vishnupriya was found hanging from the ceiling of her official residence on August 18. Following an uproar over her sudden suicide and allegations that harassment by police higher-ups had cost her life, the State government ordered a CB-CID probe into the suicide of the woman police officer.
Meanwhile, Vishnupriya’s lawyer friend M.Malaviya who was interrogated by the CB-CID on Monday told the media that he was coerced to accept that he was in love with Vishnupriya.
“I have not met Vishnupriya in person. She has only telephonically contacted me after her father’s brother, who is a police officer, asked her to get some legal clarifications from me,” Malaviya said.
“Vishnupriya spoke to me only in connection with the Gokul Raj murder case and the mill owner Jegannathan murder case, which she was probing,” Malaviya said.
The lawyer claimed that Vishnupriya had informed him that the Namakkal SP, S.R.Senthil Kumar had harassed her to arrest individuals who were not connected with the Gokul Raj murder and industrialist Jegannathan’s murder. “She told me that when she informed the DIG and the IG, they asked her to follow the SP’s instructions,” the lawyer said.
During the interrogation by the CB-CID police, he was asked to respond to 200 questions, Malaviya said. “However, the CB-CID did not bother about any of the statements regarding the Namakkal SP I gave to them,” he said.
