Lack of staff, drivers leads to tanker delays in Hyderabad

Priority is given to commercial orders over domestic

Hyderabad: Even though the Metro Water Board has enough tankers to serve the Greater Hyderabad area, officials still receive complaints about lack of tankers.

The problem is not so much of lack of tankers as lack of staff at the tanker filling station and absenteeism among drivers, say sources.

The most common complaint of residents is that the staff has cancelled the request or has delayed tanker delivery.

The staff meanwhile cite reasons like incorrect CAN number, wrong address and incorrect contact number to cancel the request. Priority is given to commercial orders over domestic needs.

Susan Krishna of Gautham Nagar, Malkajgiri, said, “We get water once in five or six days, sometimes even later; our water bills are paid. We book tankers every month due to the water crisis but there is a serious delay in service. Moulali Housing Board and Tarnaka filling stations don’t want to take the responsibility of serving the residents. Customer service is pathetic, they are least bothered about our requirements.”

Madhapur, Miyapur, Bharath Nagar, Shapoor Nagar, Bhagya Nagar, Erragadda, NTR Nagar, Erragadda, KPHB etc. completely depend on tankers. Though the Water Board claims that a tanker supplies water within days after booking, citizens trash this claim.

“The staff at the filling stations gives reasons like drivers not available, tankers under repair and incorrect address. When asked about the delay they put the blame on the customer stating that when called for directions, no one answered the call and thus the order was canceled,” added Ananth Reddy, a resident of Madhapur.
