College student’s suicide note says her plight must be an eye-opener

Coimbatore: A 19-year-old college girl consumed pesticide and ended her life after being allegedly humiliated by her college lecturer in the class room.
In her suicide note, Kalai Vani, a second year B.Com (C.A) student of a private college near Kovai Pudur, alleged that her college lecturer had asked her to give an impromptu presentation, without giving any prior notice. As she was not well prepared, she had sought more time. However, the teacher insisted that she make the presentation on Monday itself.
Kalai Vani had stuttered and fumbled through her presentation. The teacher allegedly insulted, scorned and humiliated her, prompting the entire class to laugh and scoff at Kalai Vani. The depressed girl came home and slept without having dinner. On Monday night, she drank pesticide and was found unconscious.
Her mother, who works in a garment shop, rushed her to a private hospital. As her condition turned critical, she was shifted to the Coimbatore medical college and hospital, but she died on Tuesday morning without responding to treatment.
In her suicide note, Kalai Vani said her plight should be an eye opener for all the teachers who humiliate students in the classroom. She urged the police to take action against her college teacher.
The Selvarpuram police have recovered the suicide note and booked the lecturer for abetting the suicide.
